Y0UR 2008 CONTRIBUTIONS

For several months, members of the Barbee Lakes Property Owners Association have been working to create a foundation that would be totally committed to enhancement of the Barbee Chain of Lakes. The primary purpose of creating the foundation is so Barbee Lake area residents can made tax deductible gifts for the enhancement of their chain -of-lakes water system.

 

The paperwork for the foundation was recently approved by the state of Indiana and the Grassy Creek Watershed Foundation, Inc is now in operation. While membership dues to join the BLPOA are not considered as tax deductible, all contributions for weed control, development of wetlands, dredging and other lake enhancement projects on Kuhn, Big Barbee, Little Barbee, Irish, Sechrist, Banning and Sawmill Lakes may deducted from your taxes provided you give the gift to the foundation. The name of the foundation, Grassy Creek Watershed Foundation, Inc was chosen because the state would not approve using the words Barbee Lakes in the foundation name to avoid confusion with current BPLOA.

 

As in the past, the BPLOA Board of Directions will initiate and monitor lake enhancement projects. However, beginning in 2008 assets of GCWF will be available for funding the costs of these projects.
If you are not interested in a portion of your annual gift to be tax deductible, you may continue making one check to the Barbee Lakes Property Owners Association.
If you are interested in the portion of your annual gift for lake enhancement projects (for example weed control) to be tax deductible, you should consider writing two checks. The first check should be made out to BLPOA for your annual membership of $35 and the second to Grassy Creek Watershed Foundation for lake enhancement project such as weed control.

 

As you know, the funding for weed control in our lakes depends on your donations as well as some state funding. In 2005, we started an aggressive weed control program to deal with Eurasian Water Milfoil and Curly Leaf Pondweed along with spraying for Algae. The primary goal of this plan is to control the growth and spread of these exotic plants, while managing or reducing the nuisance conditions of these exotic weeds in the shoreline and channel areas. We hope to achieve a “maintenance level” which should be less expensive to maintain. We have completed the first phase of the 5-year plan.

BPLOA membership (Check must be made out to BLPOA) $35.00

Weed control checks: Choice 1 You may include this donation with your annual BLPOA membership if you don’t wish your weed control portion for be tax deductible.
Choice 2 Tax Deductible check for weed control / wet lands should be made out to Grassy Creek Watershed Foundation Inc.

Suggested Weed Control Donation: Lake front property owners: $1.00 per linear foot of shoreline
Channel front / lake access property owners: $25
